DEVELOPMENT OF FLY ASHES AND SLAG EXPLOITATION FROM POWER STATIONS

Summary
The author, a well known expert for the exploitation of power station waste materials, gives a survey of all proceedings of fly ashes and slag application for the building material as known abroad.
The ashes, according to their value and with their chemical analyses are specified in the introduction together with possibilities of definite ash sorts and slags exploitation.
Production proceedings that were successful in industry are the following:
1. large-sized brick production with the application of dispersing agent,
2. production of bricks with lime binding agent, the setting performed in vapour in the manner of silicate brick,
3. production of bricks with cement, drying in the open air,
4. production of burnt brick in the brick plant manner,
5. production of sintered aggregate as a raw material for building industry, or as an admixture for brick production.
The survey of all proceedings of brick production from fly ashes pointed out that bricks should have numerous properties, determined by special standards. It was demonstrated how the products of the present arrangements for fly ashes exploitation are now including into the valid German standards for new sorts of bricks.
Finally the capital outlay and the cost price of products according to the German market prices are to be settled. Bricks, bound with cement successfully compite with similar hollow bricks made of natural pumice-stone. The Lünen plant products are the cheapest, the silicate bricks with the same price being their only competitor. In the clay product market there exist no conditions for a sound competition. Therefore, the brick plants are more and more orientated to the high class products-clinkers, with the possibility of higher prices. The production of airated concrete units and sintering plant products requires satisfactory circumstances in order to compite successfully with other brick products in the market.
