OBSERVATIONS ON THE DYWIDAG METHOD OF PRESTRESSING
Synopsis
In the beginning the author refers to the progress made in the past decennium in the field of prestressed concrete in the structural engineering. Today it is possible to make use of types of concrete of a much higher quality and concrete for special structural works. In this conjunction some bether types of steels for prestressing or anchorage are available by which a reliable durability and greater resistance are warranted. With the aid of some illustrations and technical
data a number of cases is quoted where the Dywidag method for prestressing is applied: construction of bridge girders, great water towers, roads, halls, great tanks and skeleton structures. The problem of corrosion in the steel for prestressing is also dealt with and the results obtained from the performed tests are quoted. The article concludes with a discussion of the behaviour of Dywidag steels exposed to the fire attack.
