Resistance to destruction of reinforced concrete columms, loaded with centric force and moment

Synopsis
As long as the construction is loaded with one or more kinds of loadings, that are more or less similar accoi'ding to the frequency of action, the admissible stress still gives a satisfactory safety measure.
Dealing with exceptional loadings either with regard to the intensity (storm, extraordinary snow, extraordinaiy useful load) or to the frequency (earthquake), it is necessary to make a comparison between the loading condition and destruction condition, taking into account all possibility factors concerning loadings as well as resistances.

Values, obtained by calculation, are in Table 1 compared with values, determined by experiment. Investigations, executed up to the present, show that the calculated values are approx, for 5 °/o lower than values, determined by experiment. Standard deviation is 9%). In Fig. 11 is graphical shown the destruction moment relation in dependency of centric loading for the concrete quality ß = 240 kg/squ.cm, /< = 0,5 °/o, and it = 1 %>. In Fig. 11 is also shown a comparison between loading conditions of both kinds of loadings (vertical and horizontal) and the destruction condition.
