ON THE SEWERAGE PROBLEMS OF THE TOWN POSTOJNA

Summary
Although the beginning of the sewerage regulation in Postojna dates already from the year 1880, the problem of drainage has not been settled yet due to the problematic question of the drain channel. The river Pivka, which flows on the skirts of the town, flows into the world-famous Postojna cave. Therefore
it is necessary for the river to remain as pure as possible.
The project suggests a complete biological purification, so that the clarified channel water would be directed partly along the melioration ditch, and partly along the Pivka river bed on the length of approx.

Summary

Although the beginning of the sewerage regulation in Postojna dates already from the year 1880, the problem of drainage has not been settled yet due to the problematic question of the drain channel. The river Pivka, which flows on the skirts of the town, flows into the world-famous Postojna cave. Therefore it is necessary for the river to remain as pure as possible.

The project suggests a complete biological purification, so that the clarified channel water would be directed partly along the melioration ditch, and partly along the Pivka river bed on the length of approx.

7 km. before reaching the cave. Thus a further water purification in its natural flow is made possible.

The sewerage is projected on the basis of the combined system with the exception of skirt regions. Only the lowest region is projected according to the separate system by which a waste water is pumped to the central sewerage system.

The first phase of sewerage, that is the building of all necessary channel collectors for the linking of present channels and pumping plant for the waste water pumping from the region drained according to the separate system, as well the mechanical part of the purification plant, would cost approx. 300 million dinars, or 60.000 dinars per inhabitant.
