This paper gives a description of a standard hall built with prestressed roof girders of Ls = 20 m. span, bound together by subsequent joint sealing with secondary reinforced concrete ribbed beams into a uniform rigid roof slab. The girders and beams were precast. The process of testing materials is discussed and the average
concrete strength of 571 kg/sq. cm. pointed out as well as the wedge slip at tensioning at only 2.65 mrn. The cables were grouted under pressure with colloid cement and Lurgi plasticiser (5.5 kg/50 kg). The prestressing force is not diminished by the steel plugs round which the outside cables are bent. The behaviour of the girder under loading was completely elastic and in accordance with the conclusions drawn from the stress analyses.
Economy comparisons showed the girder Ls = 20.0 m. to be about 19 percent less expensive than a reinforced concrete girder of the same span and with about the same loading.
