Summary

The author states the non-suitability of our roads with regard to the existing traffic conditions on them, and stresses the need of a thorough and quick reconstruction an analysis is given relating to the circumstances on the roads: »Trojanska«, St. Peter—Žalec— Levec, »Podvin«, Ljubljana—Bregana highway and the Postojna—Senožeče road. Some thoughts are uttered about the use of bitumen and tar for road building and regarding the different systems of asphalt laving on our roads, including non-skid surfaces. The »dopes« are mentioned as additives for bitumen. The necessity of road soil stabilization methods under our circumstances is mentioned. Bitumen testing methods and the way of controlling the work on the road itself are discussed. Conclusions on basis of hitherto gained experiences. Annexed a short information about the »AASHO« road tests carried out in the U. S. A. between 1952 and 1961.
