INDUSTRIALIZATION OF HOUSE BUILDING IN SLOVENIA WITH THE VIEW TO EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE

 

Synopsis
In future years approximately 75 % of all dwellings in SR Slovenia will be built in dangerous earthquake zones of IX and VIII degrees. During the construction in those zones the additional arrangments should be carried out against the present construction method. In certain cases the height of buildings should be limited that will result in the building expences.
Buildings with reinforced concrete or steel skeleton construction with light front walls and filling walls are the most adequate for the earthquake zone. However, such construction is usually less convenient due to the relatively long duration of erection, certain thermic insulation deficiencies, and due to the economical reasons.
Buildings, that will be built according to the improved traditional method by the use of mounted prefabricated units for the horizontal bearing construction, and in situ built walls of brick, larger burnt clay blocks, or of blocks made of foamed slag and fly ashes, would be more appropriate for the areas of VIII earthquake zone (32,40/0 of dwellings). However, this way of building is less appropriate for the IX earthquake zone because of the problematic bearing capacity of brick (or block) walls, subjected to the heaviest earthquake loadings.
Mounted buildings made of vertical and horizontal mounted bearing units enable the maximal house building industrialization. Meanwhile the adequate constructional arrangments give a possibility of ensuring the earthquake resistance prescribed by code requirements for the IX earthquake zone (42,3 “la of house building). Mounted construction proves several ad-wantages in economy and organization of building according to the possibilities of house building industrialization. Such way of construction, besides, has considerable advantages with regard to the earthquake resistance consisting in the following:
the adequate connection of separate units in joints enables the necessary building rigidity in both principal bearing directions;
the adequate constructional solving enables the rigid connection of roof construction and bearing walls;
buildings may be practically built without rough plaster causes considerable number of human injuries, makes the population panic, and so incresases the catastrophe;
a plant for mounted houses in IX earthquake zone would ensure quick dwelling building in case of catastrophic earthquake.
