SECTIONS IN THE CASE OF CONCENTRIC BENDING
Synopsis
This article is a continuation resp. a complement of the article published by the author in the »Gradbeni vestnik 1-1968«. It should be pointed out that this time the characteristic a of the cross-section is not known, bushould be determined with respect to the economic conditions.
The computing method consists in determining first the width b of cross-section, following the cri terion of bending stress and deflection, either by making use of the formulae 6 and 14 or simply by means of nomographs for b„ and bf, taking account of the values of elasticity, given by the formulae 5 and 13 as well as the known angle <3 of the applied load.
Then follows the determination of the valid width b and characteristic a according to the 2 criteria indicated in table 2.
The third criterion i. e. shear (tangential) stress, according to which the economic characteristic a dues not depend on the load inclination <5, can be found in the formula 32. The width bc can be determined either directly from the formula 30 or by the nomograph for bc on the basis of elasticity value from the formula 28 as well as already adopted characteristic av in table 2. The accepted ultimate width is that greater of both bv or bT values, wherens the height h of the cross section can be established according to the valid criterion either from table 2 or formula 31.
The formule 8 and 16 relate to the case as the economic characteristic exceeds 3 (a > 3).
It is adopted from practical reasons (cross-section stability), irrespective of the angle value d, the value of a <, 3.
An application of the method in practice is illustrated by a numerical exemple at the end of the article.
