Synopsis

The introduction gives a surwey of the development of the continental traffic branches with regard to their economical and technical characteristics.

The necessity of railway construction is shown according to the comparison between an average cost for street and railway transport. This comparison gives preference to street traffic because only the relation between the permanent and changable expences, and an average transport distance is taken into consideration.

The calculation of the expences for railway and street transport with reference to various transport capacities is carried out, total infrastructure being taken into account in railway transport, meanwhile only the prescribed taxes for maintenance of streets were considered. A certain amount of these expences includes a cost of a fuel. It is clear that such an income cannot suffice for the street maintenance or even cover the expences for infrastructure.

The results of the comparing calculations proved that at the certain transport capacity the railway transport is cheaper than the street one although all infrastructure expences are calculated in the railway cost.

The conclusion stresses the necessity of the comparative economical calculation for every transport.
